What tree trimming includes
Trimming keeps a tree healthy and keeps its limbs off the things you care about. A trimming job can include:
- Dead and broken branches taken out before they fall on their own.
- Limbs cut back from the roof, gutters, windows and driveway.
- Low limbs raised over sidewalks, driveways and play areas.
- Crowded canopies thinned so light and wind can pass through.
- Young trees shaped so they grow strong.
- Cleanup, with the branches and leaves hauled away.
When to trim oaks in Texas
Oaks need careful timing here. The Texas A&M Forest Service advises against pruning oaks from February through June, when the beetles that spread oak wilt are most active. Summer heat and winter cold are safer times. If a dangerous limb has to come off in spring, we paint the cut right away. Read more about trimming live oaks in April.
